1. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro

On top of this list is Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 10 Pro released in March 2021, Xiaomi Redmi  Note 10 Pro is not only the best camera phone in the market at the price range of Ksh 30,000 but is also one of the most powerful smartphones at that Price in Kenya. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro has a Chipset of Snapdragon 732G and an AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Camera however is what makes this the best phone in this category. This phone has an inbuilt image stabilization making your image clear of motion and videos not shaky.

Although many have argued that the 108MP Camera doesn’t match the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 108 MP camera, the Xiaomi Note 10 Pro takes very good pictures in a not so challenging lighting environment.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Videos

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro is mainly the top phone in this category because of the quality of videos this phone takes. The 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/60fps videos that the Redmi Note 10 Pro Records are equal to those that some professional cameras record, making this one of the best phones to buy when starting out as a VLogger or YouTuber.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Selfies

Despite Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro having an impressive Rear Main Camera, this phone only spots a 16MP Selfie camera with an f/2.5 aperture meaning it does not let in a lot of light so when using the selfie camera, be sure to be in a good lit environment for best selfies.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro has the ability to shoot 1080p@30fps and 720@30/60fps making it one of the best video recording selfie cameras in the market at the moment. The f/2.5 aperture will require you to use video lights in dark rooms for you to get that Cinematic vibe on your videos.

RECOMMENDATION

This phone is suitable for any photography enthusiast, social media influencer, YouTuber and general everyday user. Online shops can also find this phone used due to its photographic capabilities.

2. Infinix Note 11 Pro 8GB 128GB

At number two we have the Infinix Note 11 pro 8GB 128GB. Infinix has kept its pace in the competition when it comes to cameras, considering Africa is one of its largest markets. Going at a price of Ksh 27,500 the Infinix Note 11 Pro is a budget phone by design but does have some outstanding specs highlights like a huge 6.95-inch IPS LCD with 120Hz refresh rate, a big 5,000 mAh battery with 33W charging and its triple threat camera.

Infinix Note 11 Pro

The triple camera setup foregoes an ultrawide and offers a dedicated 2x telephoto instead. Frankly speaking, a 2x zoom camera is not a common sight on a budget phone, yet the Note 11 Pro packs it. You won’t stress perfection or editing of your photos as Infinix Note 11 Pro does it all for you.

Infinix Note 11 Pro Rear Main Camera

  • Primary : 64 MP, f/1.7, (wide), 1/1.72″, 0.8µm, PDAF
  • Telephoto: 13 MP, f/2.5, (telephoto), 1/3.1″, 1.12µm, AF
  • Depth: 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth)
  • Quad-LED flash
  • HDR
  • Panorama
  • 1440p@30fps (Video)

Infinix Note 11 Pro Pictures

The main camera sensor is clearly a Quad Bayer, but not one of the usuals from Sony or Samsung. By choice, it is actually an OmniVision OV64C – the first of a kind sensor from the Infinix company, with 1/1.72″ size and 0.8um individual pixels, adding a 2×2 microlens PD autofocus system, which promises improved autofocus images, distinctly in low-light.

Infinix Note 11 Pro Pictures

Infinix Note 11 Pro Pictures Videos

For video, this particular module of the camera can actually output 8K@30fps, but unfortunately, the Infinix Note 11 Pro can only capture up to 1440p (2K). This adds to the downgrades compared to the Infinix Note 10 Pro, which does have a 4K recording. Also, you do get EIS, which on the Infinix Note 11 Pro is limited to 1080p.

  • 16 MP, f/2.5, (wide), 1/3.06″, 1.0µm
  • 1080p@30fps (Video)

Selfies from the Infinix Note 11 Pro look solid overall. Details of images are on point and so are colors. You will notice that the left side of the frame is consistently softer in selfies than the opposite one, which again could indicate some lens imperfections. The 16 MP selfie camera is practically a genius in selfies.

Infinix Note 11 Pro Selfie Videos

Infinix Note 11 Pro has the ability to shoot 1080p@30fps, though it’s not the best in the market. Thankfully, the focus point indicators show up for the selfie camera as well, making it less of a guessing game when recording videos. We don’t know why more manufacturers don’t include this feature though. Videos are pleasing here under low-light. For the night shot, it’s not that reliable.

RECOMMENDATION

For any social media influencer or YouTuber who takes emergency videos or photos when they have no cameras and wants a budget phone, I would recommend the Infinix Note 11 Pro 8GB 128GB smartphone.

3. Realme 6

Closing up the top 3 is the Realme 6, which goes for Ksh 25,500. You might think that Realme is the sea, endless and full of surprises. Okay, let me not overdo the analogy. The company has once again set standards on budget phones with the Realme 6. I call it the Real 6 because it’s the cheapest 90Hz phone you can buy today. And it has a lot more to offer than just a high refresh rate screen. It comes with a large 6.5″ 1080p screen with 90Hz refresh rate and it’s coupled by the gaming-friendly Helio G90T chip. And the 4,300 mAh battery is more than adequate with the 30W fast charging which is much appreciated.

Realme 6

Realme 6 might be a budget phone, but that doesn’t come at the expense of the camera like most companies do. On the back, you’d find a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary, an 8MP ultrawide shooter, a 2MP macro snapper, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Realme 6 Rear Main Camera

  • Primary : 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.72″, 0.8µm, PDAF
  • Ultra-wide shooter: 8 MP, f/2.3, 13mm (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm
  • Macro Sensor: 2 MP, f/2.4,
  • Depth: 2 MP B/W, f/2.4,
  • LED flash
  • HDR
  • Panorama
  • 4K@30fps (Video)
  • 1080p@30/60/120fps
  • Gyro-EI

Realme 6 Pictures

Here is an engineer when it comes to photos. Rather than just a depth sensor, the 2 MP monochrome unit is called a “Portrait camera” this is because it helps with the bokeh rendering, but allegedly, it’s also used to enhance the contrast of the final photo leaving a colour balanced well-sharpened image. There’s also the 2MP macro camera. Its lens has a fixed focus at a distance of 4cm away, so you can get really close to your subjects. Night Mode is present on the Realme 6 where there’s a massive boost in the shadows and the dark skies, and the saved photo is much more evenly exposed than the regular one.

Realme 6 Videos

To jump to Video, you simply swipe left on the screen. The main camera captures 4K at 30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps stabilised video. It also includes a selection of pretty terrifying AI-assisted ‘beautifying’ features, accessed at the bottom-right corner of the viewfinder. At low-light the video is good and you will love the shots.

Realme 6 Front Selfie Camera

  • 16 MP, f/2.0, 26mm (wide), 1/3.06″, 1.0µm
  • HDR, panorama
  • 1080p@30fps (Video)

The Realme 6 has a 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera with fixed focus. It includes all sorts of beatification enhancement options like skin smoothing and eye enlargement and face thinning, and whatnot. When light is in abundance and the lowest ISO is used, you’ll get super detailed and sharp selfies just like you deserve “the best”.

RECOMMENDATION

I would advise anyone looking for a budget super camera smartphone to go for the Realme 6. Why? Because it’s one of the best and at a fair price.

4. Tecno Camon 17 Pro 8/128GB

The Camon 17 Pro is Tecno’s latest and greatest to bring decent camera hardware, powerful midrange chipset and a big battery to a budget smartphone. For Ksh 29,900 you will get a large, 6.8-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, though it’s an LCD and not OLED.

Tecno Camon 17 Pro

The Helio G95 should be easily good enough for most things, and the 5,000mAh battery promises excellent endurance not excluding the Camera hardware which sets this smartphone at number 4 in our ranking.

Tecno Camon 17 Pro Rear Main Camera

  • Primary: 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm, 1/2.0″, 0.7µm, PDAF
  • Ultra-wide:8 MP, f/2.3, 119˚, 1/4.0″, 1.12µm

Tecno Camon 17 Pro Pictures

The main camera hardware is pretty good for a Ksh 29,900 smartphone, but what makes it interesting is the new AI-powered photo feature. You get SuperNight mode for brighter and clearer low-light images but unfortunately, it’s not available for the wide-angle camera.

Tecno Camon 17 Pro Pictures

Tecno Camon 17 Pro Videos

The new AI-powered videography features together with other modes such as time-lapse, slow motion, and even a film mode with custom video templates like street, party, performance, sport etc. can help you to create cool-looking videos with minimal effort. You get 4K@30fps and 1080p@30fps video results, a good reason for you to get this gadget right away.

  • 48 MP, f/2.2, (wide), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm
  • Dual-LED flash
  • 1080p@30fps (Video)

The standout feature in Camon 17 Pro’s Camera is the 48-megapixel selfie camera, which uses an OmniVision sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. It’s a fixed-focus lens, but sharpness and detail are both excellent. Even when shooting against backlight, the phone’s HDR produces a balanced shot, and the artificial bokeh in portrait mode looks respectable, too. With these selfies, you get impressive photos that will increase social media impressions because of the detailed shots.

Tecno Camon 17 Pro Selfie Videos

This Camon’s 48MP selfie camera records video up to 4K30fps, only without stabilization at this resolution. Holding the phone and shooting yourself, the lack of stabilization won’t be a problem. The relative position of phone and subject remains fairly constant. You should note that It’s not the sharpest of 4Ks, and the dynamic range is limited.

RECOMMENDATION

Overall, at Ksh 29,900 price range, the Tecno Camon 17 Pro offers a lot to like. I would recommend it as a media consumption device thanks to the large screen, stereo speakers, long battery life, ample amount of storage and the Camera. The camera adds more to the hit in the market giving you a plus reason to visit our store and get yourself a budget-standard phone.

5. Samsung Galaxy M31s

Released on August 6th 2020 Samsung Galaxy M31s, which closes our top 5 rankings, jumps in Samsung’s lineup of affordable and exclusive smartphones designed specifically for African markets like Kenya. The M31s is an iterative upgrade over the Galaxy M31 and features mostly camera-related changes to differentiate itself. Samsung is one brand that will always deliver when it comes to cameras without considering the price range.

Offering an affordable camera phone at an affordable price, the M31s goes for Ksh 30,000 at our store in Central Business District, Kimathi Street Kimathi House, 1st floor Office no. 106, Nairobi. Get to have a look at our Samsung Phones to compare with the Samsung Galaxy M31s

  • Macro: 5 MP, f/2.4
  • Depth: 5 MP, f/2.4
  • LED flash
  • Panorama
  • HDR
  • 4K@30fps, 1080p@30fps, gyro-EIS (Video)

Pictures

The images, when captured, serve up ample amounts of detail. The primary 64-megapixel Sony sensor is able to produce amazing images when the lighting is sufficient. However, in low light scenarios, one can notice the vibration, though I would add that things are still under control. Interestingly, Samsung has brought the Single Take feature from the flagships to this mid-segment phone. You’d get the same shot captured with almost all possible modes in one place so that you can choose the best and discard the rest. That’s a great plus for the budget phone field.

Videos

The Single Take feature lets users capture 10 seconds of footage in various modes with the wide-angle lens and is helpful for users who are unsure about how to capture a certain moment. The footage is well detailed here with videos taken at 4K@30fps or 1080p@30fps, gyro-EIS.

  • HDR
  • 4K@30fps, 1080p@30fps (Video)

Samsung M31s Selfies

First, let me mention that the single take feature is also available for the selfie camera. Selfies can be shot in regular mode, wide-angle mode and you can select the resolution manually to 32-megapixel as well. The front camera performs well and up to expectation, one can’t really tell much difference between the regular and the wide-angle selfie. It does capture an impressive amount of details if the lighting conditions are favourable and images look realistic thanks to accurate colour reproduction.

Samsung M31s Videos

The M31s 32 MP selfie camera records video up to 4K@30fps or 1080p@30fps only. For some reason, the Super slo-mo gets background music added automatically while the slow-mo video offers you an option to add the background music. But with the Single Take feature, you get to record beautiful moments in video form and trust me the results will be surprising.

RECOMMENDATION

It will be an underscore for me to call the Samsung M31s a budget super camera phone because it is more than just that. I would even recommend it again and again for social media content creators and YouTubers in case one wants a budget phone that will deliver in the camera side for use when the need to take emergency footage pops up.

6. Tecno Camon 18

At number 6 is the Camon 18 is the latest device in the Tecno’s Camon series, released in November of 2021. The model is the direct successor to the Camon 17, and it is powered by Helio G88 CPU from MediaTek. The phone comes with improved and impressive features, it comes in a 6.8-inches screen with an FHD+ panel, 90Hz refresh and a centralized punched notch on the head.

The outstanding feature here is the Camera which I am just about to go into details about. Surprisingly, you can get this phone for only Ksh 21,500 in our store. See all our Tecno phone lineup here.

Tecno Camon 18 Pictures

The Tecno Camon 18’s rear camera clicks some life-like pictures with the help of features like Digital Zoom, Auto Flash, Face detection and Touch to focus. So you need not worry about photo editing as it delivers detailed photos to the point.

Tecno Camon 18 Videos

Unlike Samsung M13s which comes with the Single Take feature and lets users capture 10 seconds of footage in various modes with the wide-angle lens, the Tecno Camon 18 doesn’t have that although it can shoot 1080p@30fps Video in HDR. To deliver fine content and ensure details are held well on point, it features Dual-LED flash and Panorama.

Selfies here can be shot in Super Night mode, wide-angle mode and you can select the resolution manually. The front camera performs well and up to expectations, one can’t really tell much difference between the rare and the wide-angle selfie. It does capture an impressive amount of details if the lighting conditions are favourable and images look realistic thanks to accurate colour reproduction.

Tecno Camon 18 Videos

When it comes to video on the front selfie camera? There are modes to choose from including Super Night Mode, video bokeh mode, video beauty mode, ultra-steady mode(capped at 1080p at 30fps), slow motion (capped at 960fps) and Time-lapse at 1080p at 30fps. The film mode has customizable video templates(travel, sport, street, family and more) to choose from together with a variety of transitions, camera movements and music choices in the Film mode. It is indeed a great performer in the camera field.

Tecno Camon 18 Series Specs

RECOMMENDATION

Not only would I recommend the Tecno Camon 18 because of its Battery, Display or software and Hardware performance but also, greatly because of the camera. Frankly speaking, it’s rare to find such hardware and software kind of camera set up in a budget phone. Tecno must have given us an early Christmas gift. So get this smartphone today and you won’t regret it.

7. Xiaomi Redmi 10 4GB/128GB

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 was released on August 20th 2021 and goes for Ksh 19,500 at our store. Settling for number 7, the Redmi 10 seems like a worthy successor to the famous series offering a substantial upgrade over the Redmi 9 and adding a couple of stand-out features that are particularly hard to come across in this price range. At this price, you receive a set of stereo loudspeakers, a 90Hz high-refresh-rate display, reverse wired charging at 9W, a 50MP main camera and a dedicated microSD card slot to complement the rather generous 128GB of internal storage within the price range.

The camera is one of the tops of the base specs you’d normally want to look at in a budget device before you buy and am just about to give you a reason why it’s one of the best today. Have a look at our Xiaomi Phones available.

Redmi 10 Pictures

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 4GB/128GB rear camera clicks some life-like pictures close to the Tecno Camon 18, but one of the biggest upgrades this year’s Redmi 10 has to offer over its predecessors. You will notice that when taking photos the macro camera doesn’t get a dedicated Macro mode or a quick toggle in the default Photo mode, but there is an option, you’d have to tap on the additional settings on top of the viewfinder to access the macro camera. Daylight photos by the Redmi 10 are usually what you’d expect to get from this price range. Surprisingly, you get a much better definition of the fine detail than any other phone in the price range so that’s something.

Redmi 10 Videos

The Redmi 10 from Xiaomi can shoot 1080p@30fps Video in HDR. To deliver fine content and ensure details are held well on point, it features Dual-LED flash and Panorama just like the Tecno Camon 18.

Xiaomi Redmi 10 4GB/128GB Selfies

The selfies are an improvement over the Redmi 9’s as well and they are pretty good. There is some artificial sharpening that will bring out some skin imperfections a bit more than usual, but that’s what beautification modes are for. Also, there’s a significant amount of fine detail in the shots; your face will look natural, colours will be vibrant, and the dynamic range will be sufficiently wide.

Xiaomi Redmi 10 4GB/128GB Videos

Selfie videos are better-looking compared to the main. Contrast is improved, colours are much more vivid without going over the top and are just about as sharp as the main camera’s recording. It’s just good.

RECOMMENDATION

Anyone who knows the importance of quality detailed footage will obviously go for this smartphone at Ksh 19,500. It’s just what you need right now.

8. HTC Desire 20 Pro

The Desire 20 Pro was originally unveiled back in June, alongside the company’s first 5G phone – the HTC U20 5G. On 18th July 2021, HTC then confirmed that the Pro would be arriving in the market at any time. The Desire 20 Pro isn’t built to turn heads but at Ksh 28,500 price tag paired with a headphone jack, 5000mAh, 6.5inch 19.5:9 Full HD+ with 60Hz refresh rate IPS LCD display, isn’t a bad combination by any means. Here are all our HTC phones.

Here the quad and single cameras also stand out. Let’s go into deep details about the camera.

The quad-camera of cameras of 48, 8, 2 and 2 megapixels is used for everyday shots that require a lot of sharpness and detail, even in low light. The 8MP sensor can be used to capture complete landscapes thanks to the ultra-wide-angle lens. Then there’s a 2MP macro camera for extreme close-ups of up to 25 millimetres such as insects or flowers. The fourth sensor is to recognize depth and blur backgrounds extra. This results in more beautiful portraits thanks to the bokeh effect (sharpness/depth).

HTC Desire 20 Pro Videos

The videos are of good quality shooting at 4K@30fps or 1080p@30fps in HDR. To deliver fine content it also features Dual-LED flash and Panorama. The videos won’t shout or vibrate that much but are well sharpened and of good quality.

HTC Desire 20 Pro Front Selfie Camera

  • 25 MP, f/2.0, (wide)
  • HDR

HTC Desire 20 Pro Selfies

In order to compete with players like Samsung and Xiaomi, HTC had to do a lot of work. This is good for the consumer because it provides affordable phones with a lot of value for money. That’s why the 25 MP selfie camera has a Beauty mode to enhance your self-portraits. You get clear, sharpened and to the point photos.

HTC Desire 20 Pro Videos

Here the selfie videos are dissent. Contrast and colours are much more vivid without going over the top. It gives clear videos even in less or lower light and it’s just good.

RECOMMENDATION

Yes, this phone is worth recommending to a friend and I can stand tall and say it deserves the number 8 in our ranking. It’s a good phone at a good price.

9.  Poco X3 Pro

The spirit of the first-ever Pocophone – the F1 – continues to live as part of the newly announced Poco X3 Pro. I still don’t know how Xiaomi managed to produce a very cheap phone with the expensive features it has. Poco X3 Pro is the first Snapdragon 860 carrier in the series and its bang for the buck features. The Poco X3 Pro is IP53-rated for dust protection and splash resistance, it packs a 6.67″ IPS LCD screen with 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate support, and a 5160mAh battery capable of 33W fast charging. You also get stereo speakers, a microSD slot, NFC, an IR blaster, and even a 3.5mm jack and a super camera for only Ksh 28,900.

This phone is super hot. Let’s take a look at what places it at number 9 in-depth.

  • Primary: 48 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAF
  • Ultrawide: 8 MP, f/2.2, 119˚, 1.0µm

Poco X3 Pro Pictures

The Poco X3 Pro packs a 48MP primary camera relying on the Sony IMX 582 Quad-Bayer. Night Mode is supported on this camera. There is an 8MP snapper with a 15mm f/2.2 lens. The focus is fixed; Night Mode is present here, too. The macro camera is 2MP with f/2.4 aperture, 1.75µm pixels, but lacks autofocus. Finally, there is a 2MP depth sensor. The main camera saves 12MP photos by default, and they turn out good. The resolved detail is enough but far from impressive – intricate details are often smeared anyway it’s a mid-range phone. The dynamic range is good, though, and even when the Auto HDR is active, it won’t trigger HDR. The photos are of good quality.

Poco X3 Pro Videos

The Poco X3 Pro captures videos up to 4K@30fps with its main camera, though 1080@60fps and 1080@30fps are available as well – and after a recent update – it supports up to 1080p@960fps video recording. The ultrawide snapper is limited to 1080p@30fps, while the macro cam maxes out at 720p@30fps. Clips offer a good amount of resolved detail, and the scene looks nice – the colours are accurate, the contrast is great, and the dynamic range is more than enough.

Poco X3 Pro Selfies

The selfies are good enough detail, the colours are nice, and the contrast is great. While you have a limited range for the focus. The Poco X3 Pro covers different arm lengths and those who prefer close-up shots. Portrait selfies are available, the separation isn’t as great, and sometimes you may get smeared ears and hear. The blur looks good, though. I can’t imagine how all this is going for Ksh 28,900.

 Poco X3 Pro Videos

Electronic stabilization can be enabled on the selfie camera, and it works on all resolution and frame rates. There is also GoPro-like SuperSteady mode, which captures heavily cropped and incredibly stabilized Full HD videos with the main camera. This is just to tell you this phone is good and best for the price.

RECOMMENDATION

From the features of the camera, you can easily tell that you need this phone. It’s a good phone and great when it comes to photos and video shoots. Go get it today.
