Design.

The Galaxy S23 remains as small as the Samsung Galaxy S22, lightweight, and appealing as ever, and we anticipate it to become a popular favorite in the compact class in 2023. This year Samsung opted for an even cleaner design, one available in Phantom Black, Cream, Green, Lavender, Graphite, and Lime colors – not as many as the Galaxy S22, but still plenty enough.

The new Galaxy S23 model has a more streamlined look, which is the first thing you’ll notice. There is no longer a contour-cut camera housing; instead, there are three little rings for the lenses. Furthermore, the front and back glass panels have been upgraded to Gorilla Glass Victus 2 sheets for increased drop protection. The phone’s body is made of a glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), a glass back, and an aluminum frame.

Display.

The compact 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with expanded 1080p resolution and dynamic 120Hz refresh rate is retained in the Galaxy S23. The panel’s peak brightness has been increased to 1750 nits, up from 1300 nits on the Galaxy S22. The AMOLED display has a standard resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels, but on this 6.1-inch screen, it results in 422ppi density and everything seems crisp. A dynamic 120Hz refresh rate, a broad color gamut, and HDR10+ are all supported. The newest Gorilla Glass Victus 2 provides protection.

Camera.

The Galaxy S23 has the same three-camera system as the Galaxy S22 (wide, UW, 3x tele), but it has a new selfie camera with a higher-resolution sensor.

The primary camera is a 50MP Samsung S5KGN3 1/1.57-inch sensor “A sensor with 1.0m pixels and a Tetracell filter too. This sensor is combined with a stabilized 23mm f/1.8 lens, and dual-pixel PDAF is offered. This camera, like the one on the Galaxy S22, captures photographs in 12MP resolution rather than the usual 12.5MP. It also has a large field of view.

The telephoto lens is equipped with a 10MP Samsung S5K3K1 sensor. It is a 1/3.94 “At 1.0m, type with separate pixels. It has the same lens as the Galaxy S22, a 69mm f/2.4 stabilized lens with PDAF capability.

There is finally a new selfie on the front. A 12MP Samsung S5K3LU sensor with a 1.12m pitch and a 25mm f/2.2 lens power the new selfie camera. As is customary, dual-pixel PDAF is included. Many prior versions, including the Galaxy S22, employed 10MP front-facing cameras.

The primary camera’s full resolution mode is activated via the aspect choices, which is a bit confusing. The selfie viewfinder offers two zoom models – wide and standard (cropped). This is quite common among Galaxy phones.

The camera app is identical to what you’d see on any modern Samsung phone. Overall, a strong performance, similar to that of the Galaxy S22. While there is no major improvement, the primary camera is quite stable and constantly produces excellent results. 

Some of its main competitors on camera include the Tecno Phantom X2 5G and the Phantom X2 Pro. iPhone 15 may jump in later this year.

Performance.

Apart from the cameras, the most noticeable difference in the Galaxy S23 series is the new customized Qualcomm chipset that powers all three models. This processor dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, has a faster clock speed than usual. (It can achieve 3.36GHz, compared to the 3.2GHz peak speed of the normal Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.) As a result, performance should be speedier, with the Galaxy S23 devices nearing the benchmark set by Apple’s A-series CPUs.

Battery Life.

Larger batteries are noticeable, at least in the case of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. Both phones have a 200 mAh increase in battery capacity over the previous year’s versions. The Galaxy S23 has a 3,900 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S23 Plus has a 4,700 mAh battery. The Galaxy S23 Ultra retains its predecessor’s 5,000 mAh battery. 

Charging speeds haven’t changed with these phones. You can charge the Galaxy S23 at 25W, 15W wireless (Qi/PMA), and 4.5W reverse wireless, unlike the more affordable Galaxy F54. That means you can use the Mi 20W Charger and the Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD 45W. Samsung says the 25W fast charging can achieve 50% in 30 minutes. The more affordable Samsung Galaxy A14 5G offers a more packed battery. It is surprising also, that you can get the Redmi 13C with a 5000mAh at a very affordable price.
